why DUTCH?

The DUTCH complete is the most comprehensive and advanced hormone test on the market. It offers a profile of sex and adrenal hormones with their metabolites to assess symptoms and causes of hormone imbalance. Once the lab has processed the test, we will assess 35 different hormones along with their metabolites. This gives us an insight to objective hormone levels and how the body is metabolizing them. The test utilities objective measurements, graphics and patterns to outline the process your body.

In addition to hormone assessment, the DUTCH Complete assesses organic acids (OATS). OATs assessment includes oxidative stress markers, melatonin, markers for B12 and B6, gut health marker, glutathione, dopamine, and norepinephrine/epinephrine.

The DUTCH test is not covered by insurance as it is an “investigative” test rather than a diagnostic test. Please contact us if you are a student to inquire about discounts.

what does this test involve?

The kit contains paper strips that you dip in your urine at times noted in instructions within a 24 hour period. When the strips are dry, you will mail them off in the provided packaging. In two to three weeks we will notify you that the results are in and we will move forward to schedule a review. The review will include a 6-page report. (See a sample report here.) We will use these results to get an accurate picture of the hormones assessed and create a personalized plan to address imbalance. The DUTCH test takes the guesswork out of hormone imbalances.

When do I take the test?

  • Typical 28-day cycle: Ideally the DUTCH complete or sex hormone test is done on days 19, 20, 21, or 22 (or 5-7 days after ovulation) if the first day of bleeding is considered day 1.

  • Short Cycle: Adjust the collection by the number of days you are short of 28 days. For example, if you have 25 day cycles, collect on days 16, 17, 18, or 19.

  • Long cycle: Adjust the collection by the number of days you go beyond 28 days. For example, if you have a 40-day cycle, you would collect on days 31, 32, 33, or 34.

  • Irregular cycle: If you do not bleed regularly or skips months (peri-menopause), first try testing for ovulation. This is done using ovulation predictor kits (OPK) bought at any grocery store. Each morning, you will urinate on one until there is a positive test. Once there is a positive OPK it means she is likely to ovulate very soon. Stop collecting the OPK, wait 5-7 days and collect the DUTCH complete or sex hormone test.

  • No cycle: You can take the test as soon as it arrives.
