Planting the Seed in Our Children’s Lives

Simple changes and habits may make a world of difference.

The seed was planted 25 years ago when I watched my mom tip her head back and swallow her vitamins with her freshly blended smoothie. It was all routine: late morning rolled around and my sisters and I would head upstairs to the playroom as my mom hopped on her Precor Elliptical. My mom unplugged for 45 min of exercising as we plugged into Barbies and American Girl Dolls. She would finish, get 10 minutes or so of light weights/core and we would head downstairs to all participate in making her post-workout smoothie.

Growing up, we were always a part of the food process. From groceries, organizing, cooking, and trying new things. We were made fun of at school for having “organic” or salads for lunch. Little did she know she was before her time including toddlers in healthy food prep, blending smoothies, and going “organic”. My mom is the foundation of my health journey as a mother and practitioner.

Planting the seeds in our children’s lives will have an immeasurable effect on who they become. In any instance, but in this case, food and health. Somewhere in the last 100 years, fast, easy, and nutrient deficient has become the norm. We reflect on the top diseases in America: heart disease, anxiety, depression, ADHD, eczema, obesity, and diabetes and wonder how we can “fix” them. We have a multi-billion dollar drug industry to fix everything and live longer. Every single one of these diseases is rooted in food. What we provide for our kids from day one will shape the way they take care of themselves in the future. This does not need to include every supplement available, 100% organic, or endless amounts of money. Simple changes and habits may make a world of difference. Knowledge is power, my friends!
