What the Health?

So what is health?

Only YOU can determine that for yourself.

The health industry is booming, but everyone is sick. In a world of 3 month waits for doctors with 10 min time slots and influencers claiming to know the next best labs or supplement, it’s a confusing place to be. What is better, or who is “right”? As a Western-trained family nurse practitioner in the integrative, holistic world I can assure you there is no right answer. Health is and should never be a “one size fits all”. In school, we were taught that the term health has been defined as “not diseased”, or “normal, natural, and desirable”. We were taught to learn how to treat every disease, illness, or abnormal symptom. We were never taught to consider the root cause. We live in a world where chronic disease is at an all-time high. Cardiovascular disease is still the number one killer. 42% of Americans are obese. Our children are no better: according to a research paper published in Academic Pediatrics in 2011, at least 54% of American children have a diagnosed chronic condition. This is backwards. Our environment is at an all-time low. Medication is at an all-time high. Our food is depleted of most nutrients and saturated in herbicides/pesticides. Processed food utilizes expert marketing to claim to be healthy and the American Heart Association tells doctors to educate people that red meat and saturated fats are unhealthy.

So what is health? Only you can determine that for yourself. My definition of health is a state of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. A feeling of balance and peace as it relates to the entire body. My goal here is to provide education and insight into these topics that help contribute to a state of health beginning with free medicine because it’s just that - free.

**I am a believer in the science of modern medicine. The United States healthcare system is outstanding in technology, advancements, surgery/procedures, and research. Where we lack is preventative medicine, allowing freedom in a decision, alternative options, and respecting the patient as a whole person; mind, body, and soul. This is not a space for medical advice.
